New bishop appointed for Hakha Diocese
21 October 2013: Rev. Mgr. Lucius Hre Kung, 54, has been appointed as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Hakha, Chin State last Saturday.
The new Bishop, originally from Hnaring village of Thantlang Township, held the positions of Vicar General and Parish Priest of the Cathedral in Hakha before his recent appointment.
Chin Christian Pastor Rev. Dr. Chum Awi said in his congratulation messsage that it was the result of Bishop Hre Kung’s commitment to his hard works over the past several years.
After finishing his study in Philosophy and Theology at the National Major Seminary in Mandalay and Rangoon, he was ordained a priest in 1989, and had worked in Tedim, Hnaring and Hakha.
Previously part of Mandalay Archdiocese, the Hakha Diocese was established on 21 November 1992
In 1993, Bishop Nicholas Mang Thang was appointed as the first Bishop of the Hakha Diocese, according to www.catholicmyanmar.org.#
