Chin singers to raise fund in Washington DC

08 September 2013: Chin singers Milla Dawt Hniang, from USA, Van Dawt Cin and Cung Lian Thawng, both from Burma, are set to perform in Washington DC, US on 13 October 2013.

The Sunday concert, organized by a community-based group called ‘Rual-U’, is aimed to raise fund for construction of a tennis court for the Chin Christian College.

The organizers said that the proceeds would also be spent toward donating cars for local communities to learn driving in Chin State.

Salai Thawng Za Lian, Chairman of Rual-U in USA, said that a lot of money was spent for travelling to Mandalay or Rangoon just to learn driving.

“If we can provide necessary facilities such as vehicles, local communities and individuals will be able to save money and time. And at the same time, they can get driving skills at home.”

The Rual-U, a group of ‘middle-aged’ volunteers, was organizationally initiated in Rangoon on 23 April 2009 although the movement had been around for years.

According to the group’s record, the Rangoon formation was immediately followed in Hakha and Thantlang towns in Chin State, and later in USA in 2011.

With its aim ‘To do good things for the Chin’, the local committee members have involved in organizing important events such as the Chin National Day, and made contributions toward preparing for funeral services.#
