Pension department to be established in Chin State

25 September 2013: During the sixth regular session of the first Chin State Hluttaw held in Hakha, the Chin State parliament agreed to establish a new department for pensioners.

The issue had been raised by Pu Nan Saih, MP from Paletwa Constituency No. 2, and the motion won the majority votes.

Dr. Ba Maung, Chin Minister of Social Affairs, said pensioners in Chin State had to travel to Monywa town of Sagaing Region to get their monthly payment.

He said in the Voice Daily that the problems facing Chin pensioners would be solved if the new department was set up, adding: “But this issue is yet to be submitted to the central government.”

Chin State is the only state in the whole of Burma that does not currently have a department for pensioners.

The Chin parliamentary session, which has started since 17 September, continues only with 20 MPs in attendance, Chief Ministers Pu Hung Ngai being one of the 4 absent.#
