ZCD Applied for Official Party Registration
30 July 2012: The Zomi Congress for Democracy (ZCD) submitted its application to officially register as a political party in Burma last Thursday.
ZCD, Headquartered in Pansodan Street, Kyauktada Township of Rangoon, applied for an official registration of its party on 26 July 2012 in line with the political parties registration law section 5, according to the New Light of Myanmar.
The Union Election Commission (UEC) said it is inspecting ZCD’s application which includes the party’s name, flag and logo.
On 5 July this year, UEC granted permission to ZCD to form a politial party after its previous registration application with the name ‘Zomi National Congress‘ was rejected.
The Zomi National Congress, a political party that won two seats from Chin State during the 1990 Elections, was declared illegal in the 1990s by the military junta.
