Pu Chin Sian Thang to Visit USA in July

30 June 2012: President of the Zomi National Congress (ZNC) Pu Chin Sian Thang is to make his first visit to USA next month after having obtained a visa from the US Embassy in Burma, sources confirmed.

The 74-year-old Chin politician is likely to leave Burma soon at the invitation of the Zomi Community USA to attend as a guest of honour the Zomi Conference USA 2012 to be held in Tulsa city of Oklahoma State.

The conference will arrange a discussion session named ‘Zomi Forum’ with former political prisoner Pu Chin Sian Thang to talk about the situation of political and national issues in Burma.

During his visit to USA, Pu Chin Sian Thang is expected to take the opportunity to have a medical checkup, according to Go Sawm Khup, President of the Zomi Innkuan USA, as reported by the Tongsan News.

Alongside the late Pu T. Gou Gin, Pu Chin Sian Thang, an elected MP during the 1990 Election, is to receive a ‘Zomi National Freedom Award’ for their commitment and selfless sacrifices in the struggle for freedom and self-determination in Burma.

Last month, the Zomi National Congress was asked by the Union Election Commission (UEC) to change its party’s name for registration in the country as a legal political party.

The party later announced that it would make a new submission of registration application under a new name.

Pu Chin Sian Thang was last year given the Zomi Independence Hero Award at the 34th World Zomi Congress (WZC) meeting.
