Chin Actress Won Burma’s Best Acting Academy Award
08 February 2012: Ms Thet Mon Myint aka Zung Cer Mawi yesterday won the best leading actress award in the ‘Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards’ ceremony held in Naypyidaw, capital of Burma.
The Chin actress, from Falam, Chin State, was crowned the best actress for her leading role with starring actors Pyay Ti Oo, and Sai Sai Kham Leng in the film ‘Adam, Eve and Datsa’ directed by Wyne.
Chin email groups have been since flooded with words congratulating Mai Zung Cer Mawi for her achievement as the first Chin actress winning the academy award in Burma.
One of the emails commented: “We are very proud of her not only for her great acting skills but also for her ‘unfaltering’ courage in wearing Chin traditional costumes at the ceremony. We love and respect her.”
Mai Zung Cer Mawi became well-known across the country following her involvement in a promotional advertisement of cosmetic products in the late 1990s.
The film Adam, Eve and Datsa was among three Burmese feature films shown at the 4th Annual Myanmar Film Festival in Los Angeles in USA in November last year.
The Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards ceremony has been held annually since 1952.
