Blaze Destroyed State Judge’s House
15 December 2011: An apparent accidental fire destroyed the house of the State chief judge on Thursday evening when it was engulfed by a rapid blaze in State’s capital Hakha.
A newly constructed building, the house is the residence of U Win Myint Kyaw, the chief justice of Chin State appointed in the new government. The fire consumed the building before fire fighters arrived at the scene.
While the exact cause remains unknown it is believed the fire started when a cooking gas exploded. Some belongings in the house were removed and saved before the house was reduced to ashes, according to eye witnesses.
No houses nearby was burned as residents tried to contained the fire. A resident said that a fire truck arrived at the scene only after the house was bunt to the ground.
