Chin Online ‘Chat Show’ Launched

08 November 2011: A new Chin ‘Chat Show’ recorded on Sunday has been made available online since yesterday, with a group of US-based Chin Christian and community leaders discussing on how to take steps in helping youths living in foreign countries to be ‘patriotic’.

The Global Chin Talk (GCT), believed to be the first of its kind among Chin communities worldwide, held its first discussion in Falam Chin dialect on 6 November in Indianapolis of Indiana State, the most Chin populated city in USA.

Salai Justin Sang Hring Thang, of the Global Chin Talk, said that the programme aims to bring more Chin prominent leaders from both inside and outside Burma onto the panel on a regular basis in the future, according to Chinland Today.

However, detailed schedules of the programme have not been announced as the recorded video-clips of the first discussion were uploaded online at Youtube and Vimeo websites.

As part of its goals, the GCT strives to create a common platform for global Chins to share views and ideas while making an attempt through its programmes to preserve national identity, as well as explore domestic and international issues.

Taking into account the mass migration of Chin people from Burma into foreign countries, the first panel discussion also looked into the advantages and disadvantages of the Chin migration and steps needed to be taken in terms of creating better communication among the Chin Diasporas.

It is estimated that about 30,000 Chins are currently living in the US, with more than 6,000 in Indiana State alone.
