Chin Female Boxer to be Trained for SEA Games in Indonesia
31 August 2011: Mai Nelly Bawi Nei Sin, who won the first prize among a team of Burma’s best female boxing trainees, is to be a part of the ‘selected group’ that will represent the country in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.
The Chin boxer will be trained in Kazakhstan as a member of Burma’s best female boxers selected to participate in the 26th SEA Games to be held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia in November 2011.
She was crowned the championship of boxing tournament held by the Myanmar Boxing Federation at Thein Phyu Stadium from 17-22 August 2011 ahead of the SEA Games, according to Chinworld.info.
Mai Nelly Bawi Nei Sin, a second-year student of Mandalay University, was quoted as saying that it was only the first step of a series of preparations which will be conducted in Pakistan from 15 September for more than one month.
A team of 22 boxers from the Myanmar Boxing Federation are scheduled to be trained in Pakistan under the supervision of a Pakistani coach.
Earlier this year, the Chin boxer (18 kg) went to Turkey as one of Burma’s selected two female boxers to take part in the Women’s Junior and Youth World Championships held in Antalya.
Last month, Mai Nelly Bawi Nei Sin, daughter of Pu Than Ceu and Pi Hrang Nei Kil, from Falam Township, also participated in the 21st edition of the traditional President’s Cup International Boxing Tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Myanmar Boxing Federation has increased its efforts in training the boxers to win trophies in the 26th SEA Games to be held in Indonesia this year and in the 27th in Burma in 2013, according to U Nay Zaw, MBF Associate Secretary.
Meanwhile, Benny Lian Uk was participating as a team of Burma’s selected Judo Team competing in the Asian Junior Sports Exchange Games 2011 held in Tokyo, Japan from 22-29 August 2011, according to unconfirmed sources.
