21 July 2026 – A woman over 30 years of age was allegedly assaulted, and an elderly man over 70 years of age was reportedly beaten unconsciously in Khampat town of Sagaing Region, according to reports from local residents.

The incident took place after the two individuals encountered military personnel from the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) while returning to their residence in Ward 4 of Khampat town on approximately 18 July.

The pair had reportedly returned from a displacement site because of an urgent matter. A local resident said the elderly man was severely beaten and the woman was raped by SSPC military soldiers. Their current conditions remain unclear.

SSPC military forces operating along the Kalay-Tamu Road have continued an offensive toward Kamma Gyi village after taking control of Khampat town and Kanan village. Fighting is reportedly ongoing in the area.

The SSPC military launched the offensive in early June, deploying thousands of troops from Kalay, Tamu, and Mawlaik towns in an effort to regain control of the Kalay-Tamu highway. – Reporting by Daniel
