Four SSPC troops killed in Monywa Industrial Zone attacks

17 June 2026 – At least four soldiers of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military forces were killed and two vehicles damaged after resistance forces carried out coordinated attacks on a SSPC military position and a reinforcement convoy in Monywa town’s Industrial Zone in Sagaing Region on 15 June.

According to local revolutionary groups, resistance fighters launched a surprise assault on SSPC military troops stationed at Taw Ywar Monastery in the Industrial Zone Ward. 

During the ensuing clashes, a SSPC reinforcement convoy of 13 civilian vehicles carrying additional troops was dispatched to the area but was ambushed en route by allied resistance forces.

Local resistance groups said the attacks killed four SSPC military personnel in total and damaged two vehicles. They added that 79mm weapons and landmines were used during the operation.

The operation was jointly carried out by People’s Defence Force-Monywa (PDF-Monywa), District Battalion Group 5 plus 1 (Battalions 4, 22, 23, 25 and 28), the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Royal God People’s Defense Force, Monywa Nat Soe Group, and Monywa People’s Defense Combat Team.

According to the participating groups, all resistance fighters withdrew safely after the operation. The reported casualties and damage could not be independently verified. – Reporting by Daniel
