4 May 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) soldier from Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 50, based in Gangaw township, Magway Region, defected to the Chinland Defence Force – Kalay Kabaw Gangaw (CDF-KKG) with weapons and ammunition, according to a statement released by the group. 

The defector was identified as Kaung Khant (Personal ID: Ta-546795). He brought with him one MA-1 rifle, four magazines, 135 rounds of ammunition, and two hand grenades.

CDF-KKG stated that the soldier was warmly received after seeking refuge with the resistance. In recognition of the weapons and ammunition he surrendered, he was awarded a cash reward of 5 million kyats.

According to the group, the soldier defected on 19 April and has since been safely transferred to a liberated area. – Reporting by Ben
