23 April 2026 – Intense fighting continues in Falam township as State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) forces launch a massive aerial offensive aimed at recapturing Falam town and the strategically vital Surbung Airport.
A recent resistance drone strike near Var bridge killed two SSPC soldiers and injured five others, marking continued losses for the military despite its heavy reliance on air support.
The SSPC campaign, triggered by significant ground setbacks and mounting casualties, has seen the reported deployment of internationally prohibited cluster munitions near Sumhrang village. These strikes are part of a broader pattern of aggression that has destroyed civilian homes and infrastructure across the region.
Resistance forces maintain that their defensive and counteroffensive operations will continue as long as the military pursues its offensive.
Amid the instability, Chin political bodies are taking concrete steps toward self-governance. The Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC) recently announced the formation of nine departments, including Defence and Justice, to formalize an administrative framework.
While the SSPC attempts to project control through judicial reshuffles and reorganized administrations in urban centers, resistance groups and the separate Chinland Council continue to expand their own governance and aid structures in areas outside military reach. – Reporting by Daniel
