21 April 2026 — The Chin National Front (CNF) has decisively rejected a peace invitation from coup leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, asserting its lack of confidence in the move and reaffirming its commitment to the pro-democracy agenda of the Steering Committee for the Establishment of a Federal Union (SCEF).
The invitation was part of a “100-day plan” announced by the junta leader on 20 April, calling on Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs), including the CNF, Karen National Union (KNU), and All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF), to hold talks before 31 July to revive the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).
Min Aung Hlaing also used the meeting in Naypyitaw to issue a separate call for members of the People’s Defence Force (PDF) to surrender within the same 100-day period.
CNF spokesperson Salai Htet Ni rejected the proposal as an untrustworthy return to the failed NCA process, which the group considers already violated. He stated that the CNF rejects any process based on the NCA and the 2008 Constitution, choosing instead to follow the political position of the SCEF, an alliance that includes the National Unity Government (NUG), Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO), KNU, and various Karenni groups.
This rejection comes amidst intensifying military conflict, particularly in Chin State, where the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military has recently conducted airstrikes, targeting civilian infrastructure in areas like Tlangzar village, Falam township and Paletwa township, resulting in casualties and destruction.
The ongoing fighting, which includes the movement of an SSPC military convoy toward Falam, underscores the reality on the ground, where the NCA—signed by the CNF and others in 2015—has largely failed to prevent conflict since the 2021 coup. – Reporting by Ben
