29 March 2026 — The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out an airstrike on Kyauktawng village in Paletwa Township, Chin State, on Sunday afternoon.
According to initial reports from We Love Paletwa local sources, the attack occurred at around 4:00 pm, when two fighter jets dropped bombs on the village. No active clashes were reported in the area at the time.
As a result of that, at least six civilians were killed, and four others, including a child, were injured, and there was widespread damage to homes.
The explosions triggered fires that spread rapidly among houses, many of which are built with wood and bamboo. Several homes were burned and destroyed.
“After the bombs hit, the houses caught fire immediately. The fire spread very fast, and people fled in fear, making it difficult to control the flames. Many houses were destroyed,” a resident said.
Local sources described the strike as indiscriminate. The village is small and mainly inhabited by Khumi residents, with a few Rakhine households.
Details remain limited due to access and security constraints. The total number of houses damaged and the extent of losses have not yet been confirmed, and assessments are ongoing. – Reporting by Ben
