23 February 2026 — Ten houses were destroyed by a fire in Twei Kin Wa village, Paletwa township, Chin State, on the afternoon of 21 February, according to local residents.

The fire reportedly started around 3:00 pm at the home of Mr Kyaw Tha Oo while water was being heated.

Initial reports from Arakan Princess Media indicate that the flames spread rapidly to the house’s bamboo walls and then, exacerbated by strong winds, quickly engulfed neighbouring houses.

Villagers worked to put out the blaze, but the quick spread in the densely built, bamboo-structured area led to the destruction of ten homes.

According to Khumiland News, a resident noted: “As it is the summer season, strong winds made the fire difficult to control. The nearby houses were built of bamboo, allowing the flames to spread quickly.”

The fire was eventually brought under control around 5:00 pm through the joint efforts of local residents and the Fire Department under the Arakan People’s Revolutionary government.

Following the incident, the Department of Law Enforcement and Public Security (DLEPS) has initiated legal action against the homeowner in accordance with established procedures.

The fire is the second major incident in the township this month, following a separate fire on 9 February that destroyed two houses in Mrit Wa village. – Reporting by Ben
