SSPC airstrike killed five civilians in Mi-Ae village, Magway Region

5 February 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out an airstrike on Mi-Ae village in Kyaukhtu sub-township, Saw township, Yaw region of Magway Region, on the evening of 5 February.

The attack occurred at around 4:50 pm, when an SSPC jet fighter, reportedly taking off from Magway Air Base, dropped two 500-pound bombs on the village. There were no clashes in the area at the time.

At least five civilian women were killed, including two girls under the age of 13, and two women were injured. The airstrike also damaged four houses, with one destroyed by fire.

According to a local source from Yaw Alinn Tan, about one hour before the bombing, an SSPC UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) from Kyaukhtu Artillery Battalion (368) conducted surveillance flights over the village, after which a jet fighter flew at low altitude and bombed the village directly. 

Local sources said SSPC air surveillance and airstrikes have increased in Kyaukhtu sub-township and warned residents to remain alert. A similar airstrike without ground fighting was also reported in Htilin township the previous night.Over the past month, SSPC forces have carried out at least 23 airstrikes in the Yaw region, resulting in multiple civilian casualties, according to local monitoring. – Reporting by Ben
