1 August 2024 –
The 100-bedded public hospital in Tedim Town, which had been closed since 26 May owing to the conflict between SAC forces and PDF Zoland (People’s Defense Force) reopened on 1 August. “Because of the fighting, the head of the hospital fled to another city. Now it is reopened, but he is afraid to come back. Two assistant doctors and other health nurses are managing it,” said a local resident. With the contribution of churches in the town, the hospital was renovated in July.
There are about 70,000 Chin population currently taking shelter in Mizoram, and the number is increasing due to the current fighting in Chin State, said the Institute of Chin Affairs (ICA). “This year, the number of Chin people temporarily staying in Mizoram has increased significantly. Most of them have entered from Zokhawthar. Some are living by renting a place and others living in camps.” A Mizoram-based media reported that there were about 1,500 new arrivals in Mizoram this week.
2 August 2024 –
Residents in Falam Town (estimated to over 500 out of the total estimated population of over 10,000) fled into nearby villages, Kalay town of Sagaing Region and across the border into India following news that the SAC military outpost over the town of Falam would be attacked by the local defence groups.
3 August 2024 –
Mampui branch Young Lai Association seized 47 petrol and diesel barrels being carried by 4 trucks at about 3:30am and handed them over to the Central Young Lai Association in Lawngtlai District, Mizoram State. According to the CYLA, the “illegal” transportation of petrol, diesel and urea has caused many problems to the people, adding: “We know that they are being used as weapons to attack our brothers who are in Myanmar. So, we will continue to prevent illegal trade…. anyone who illegally transported petrol, diesel and urea without following the rules and compliance would be severely punished.”
A Chin youth refugee group based in Sangau of Mizoram State donated 1,200,000 Kyats for the Tilim Operation-4 on 3 August. The operation between SAC forces and local defense groups took place in locations between Hakha and Thantlang towns.
4 August 2024 –
Local defense forces took over an SAC camp between Timit and Tita on the Hakha-Thantlang main road in the morning on 4 August amid heavy weapons launched from the Hakha-based SAC forces and aerial attacks.
SAC jet fighters dropped bombs twice in Thantlang township on 4 August 2024 as fighting between SAC forces and local defense groups continued.
5 August 2024 –
The main military base of SAC forces in Thantlang Town was taken over by local defense groups at about 9am. The attempts to capture the main SAC base have started since July.
One house collapsed in a landslide incident in Cinmual Ward of Falam Town following heaving rains. “There were no people living in that house. The land in the area slid downhill carrying the house away.
Chin people currently taking shelter in Farkawn, Champhai District, Mizoram State following ongoing conflict donated more than 25 lakh Kyats for the Tilim Operation-4. “On 5 August, we had a prayer for the country and the nation. With the money we raised that day, we were able to donate 2,640,000 Kyats for the operations,” one of the Farkawn-based Chin fellowship members told The Chin Post. Similarly, those currently staying in Lawngtlai, Lawngtlai District, donated 551,000 Kyats and 79,000 rupees for the Tilim Operation-4. The operations took place between SAF forces and local defense groups in locations between Hakha and Thantlang towns.
6 August 2024 –
On 6 August, SAC forces used three jet fighters to drop bombs more than five times on two SAC military outposts taken over by the local defense groups and nearby places in Thantlang Township. On 7 and 8 August, SAC sent in troop reinforcements and weapons into its military base on the hilltop of Mount Rung over Hakha Town by Y-12 transport military aircraft.
On 6 August at around 1:00 pm, two jet fighters dropped 500-pound bombs on one village in Mindat Township. The bomb remains unexploded, according to the local sources.
7 August 2024 –
SAC forces carried out aerial attacks at around 1:00 a.m. on 7 August in the nearby area of Chat village, Mindat Township. A local resident was quoted as saying by Zalen, “I heard that it is near to Chiat village, there is no phone line there, and there may be some damages. It is close to the mountains. I heard the sound of a bomb explosion, and there was another bomb that had not exploded even though there was no battle in the area.” Last July, an air attack made by the SAC destroyed a religious building and two residential houses in Mindat Township, killing one civilian and injuring two people.
On 7 August, one SAC soldier named That Paing Soe based in Thantlang Town surrendered himself to local defense forces, with one MA2, 4 magazines, a hand grenade and 145 bullets. He was awarded 50 lakh Kyats.
Two SAC soldiers who no longer want to serve under the SAC surrendered themselves to the local defense forces based in Thantlang Town on 25 July. Both of them were given 50 lakh Kyats.
8 August 2024 –
Flood-affected families in the Tamu area of Sagaing Region received humanitarian support of food items on 8 August. Through the Tamu Region Support Center, the Chun Nan Myanmar Brothers provided them with food items including rice, oil, salt and peas. “We are fleeing due to both armed conflict and the flood. We are really happy that they have come to help us. We cannot stop thanking the organizations that have helped us and those who have presented to us,” an IDP woman told Zalen. It was reported that the Burma Refugees Committee for flood victims supported 50,000 kyats per household and the Minister of Women, Youth and Children Affairs under the National Unity Government (NUG) has already supported 100,000 kyats per household. The flood hit the areas during the night of 21 July.
9 August 2024 –
SAC’s LIB-50 stationed in Gangaw Town, Magway Division fired heavy weapons, injuring a 60-year-old woman of Saidu village who was harvesting sesame seeds this morning. A member of the public administration in Saidu village said, “The heavy weapon hit her in her left arm at the time when she was harvesting sesame seeds.” Last year in 2023, one civilian was killed and six others were injured in Saidu village after SAC’s LIB-50 fired the heavy weapons for no reasons.
The Gangaw-Lailenpi road is temporarily closed starting from 9 August mainly because of the ongoing conflict in the areas with an attempt to capture Lailenpi town occupied by SAC forces. A member of the Yaw Based Public Administration said, “We have had a meeting with the CNA officials. It was just a request not to use it at the moment. We heard the mountain collapse on the road and also there is a battle to seize the town at the moment. The road will be reopened soon after the town is captured.”
SAC’s LIB-50 stationed in Saidu village, Gangaw Township of Magway Division fired about 50 rounds of 120 mm heavy weapons. Some of the heavy bombs landed and exploded in the nearby village, but 10 rounds of heavy weapons landed and exploded inside the village of Saidu, injuring five local residents and destroying one local resident’s house. This took place from 4:00 p.m. until around 8:00 p.m. on 9 August.
SAC’s LIB 274 fired heavy weapons on 9 August, killing a 33-year-old pregnant mother Daw Ling Shing and her 6-year-old daughter as they were hit while working in the elephant foot yam agricultural farm in the east ward of Mindat Town, Chin State. A person close to them said: “They built a tent in the farm near San village where they are living there as IDPs. The pregnant mother died on the spot and her daughter got injured while they went to see the planted elephant foot yam in the fields. Later, the daughter was sent to the hospital because her arm was lost.”
A 500-lbs bomb dropped by SAC jets damaged a school and 3 houses at Lwe Pan village in Mindat Township.
On 9 August at around 3 pm, SAC’s 274 LIB battalion based in Mindat Town fired a 120mm artillery shell toward the eastern side of the town, resulting in the death of a 33-year-old woman who was working on a farm. A five-year-old child was also seriously injured with a broken arm.
10 August 2024 –
On 10 August around noon, SAC launched an airstrike targeting Luipan village in No.1 Circle in Mindat Township, bringing damage to a school and some civilian homes.
11 August 2024 –
SAC’s LIB-50 stationed in Lung Haw village, Gangaw Township, Magway Division fired 12 rounds of 120-mm around and inside the village starting from 8:17 p.m. to 8:47 p.m. on 11 August. One civilian house was damaged and one child was injured. A local resident: “From 8:00 p.m. to 8:47 a.m., about 16 rounds of heavy weapons were fired where a 12-year-old child got injured in her arm in Lung Haw village. There were 4 rounds fired in the north of Sai Du village, one of them did not explode, and a house in the village was hit and destroyed.”
One woman was killed and one man injured after the SAC forces’ aerial attacks in Htilin of Gangaw Township on 11 August. Both of them were known to be from Wabin village.
12 August 2024 –
Local defense forces said that they had taken over SAC’s military camp on Keivangzuan at about 6am on 12 August. The joint Rung operation captured the SAC outpost between Hakha and Thantlang towns, with the seizure of weapons such as 60mm, two MA1, four MA2, one MA3, two MA4, a machine gun, 25 magazines, landmine bombs and ammunition.
13 August 2024 –
Two civilians, a 42-year-old woman and a 3-year-old boy, were killed and another 4 including a 6-month-old child and two 12-year-old children seriously injured after SAC forces launched aerial attacks in the village of Satchauk, Kanpetlet Township, Chin State at almost 1:48 p.m. on 13 August. Six civilian houses were damaged in the attack, and another 2 houses were partly damaged.
On 13 August 2024, one woman was killed by a landmine as she stepped on it while on her way to her farm in Matupi Township.
Sharp hikes in transportation costs in Chin State. For instance, a motorbike renting cost from Paletwa Township, Chin State to Thantaung in Magway Region is up to 1,400,000 (14 lakh) MMK. The previous cost before the coup was about 50,000 (fifty thousand) MMK. Traveling from Kalaymyo of Sagaing Region to Rihkhawdar, an India-Burma border town, has increased from 80,000MMK to about 2 lakh MMK in recent weeks.
Conflict between Thantlang and Hakha towns continued, with one more SAC military outpost (Keivangzuan) was taken over by the local defense groups on 13 August.
A group of about 50 SAC soldiers went from one house to another in Khaikam town of Tedim Township, checking the house registry lists.
14 August 2024 –
Two civilians were killed and three others were injured when SAC’s LIB-50 stationed in Gangaw Town, Magway Region opened fire in the morning in villages such as La Puh, Yua Si, Aauh Hlah, Shung Shih. Residents fled to safety zones. “One from Shung Shih village, two from Aauh Hlah village were hit, two were killed, and two were also injured in Ywa Si village. So, we are currently avoiding the villages and living in the safety zone,” said a villager.
The Kimo media reported that a large number of people from Rakhine State had come and settled in Paletwa Township in recent months while local residents in the township fled their homes as IDPs following clashes between SAC forces and the Arakan Army.
Many people from Rakhine State, who are not local residents, came to settle in Paletwa Township, Chin State where the real local people of Paletwa had fled to different areas and regions as IDP members due to the fight between SAC and AA. A local resident of Paletwa town, who now lives in Yangon told Kimo Media: “Many people from Rakhine State have settled in Paletwa Township while we are unable to return to our native places.” A local resident of Maungdaw told Kimo Media that the people who had moved to Paletwa Township are Rakhine people from Kyaut Htu, Myaut Oo and Maungdaw of northern Rakhine State.
16 August 2024 –
On 16 August, a member of Tedim-based youth organization was arrested at the military checkpoint exiting Kalaymyo of Sagaing Region while he was on his way to his hometown, Tedim, from Kalaymyo. It was reported that he had been detained because of some sensitive photos found in his mobile phone.

17 August 2024 –
The ministers of the Government of Chinland led by the chief minister visited the battlefield of Thantlang Town on 17 August.
Chin refugees currently taking temporary shelter in Aizawl of Mizoram State contributed 84,700 Rupees for the Tilim Operation – 4 on 17 August. “The money donated for Tilim Operation-4 is raised from the Chin people living in Aizawl City. It is not easy to raise the amount of 84,700 rupees at the current level, but we are very grateful to all those who have contributed their money for the country and the nation,” said Daw Siang Chin Cinzah. The operation took place in locations between Hakha and Thantlang towns.
18 August 2024 –
One SAC soldier named Zin Myo Aung of LIB-268 battalion based in Falam town surrendered himself with some weapons such as an MA1, 150 bullets, 4 magazines and 4 Inaga bombs, according to the CNO/CNDF announcement made on 18 August. He was given 60 lakh Kyats as a financial reward.
The Future Hope Foundation donated more than 100 military uniforms to CDF-Matupi Brigade-2 and Battalion-2 (Vakok Battalion) based in Matupi Township, Chin State.
19 August 2024 –
Magway-based Air Force of SAC conducted airstrikes using two jet fighters dropping two bombs weighing 500 pounds and seven other bombs in the area of No. 4 in Mindat Township at about 3:30 a.m. on 19 August.
Clashes between SAC soldiers and the Asho Chin Defense Force (ACDF) broke out on the Minbu-Ann road near Thung Gyi village in Ngaphe Township of Magway Region at about 11a.m. on 19 August where two SAC soldiers were killed and one gun was seized. It was reported that SAC forces stationed in the areas in Ngaphe Township forcibly exacted people’s motorcycles, stole crops in the orchard and often mistreated the people.
A pre-dawn SAC airstrike on Hpwi Village, Mindat Township on 19 Aug damaged a primary school and 7th Day Christian Church buildings. With about 50 households, the village is located only 9 miles west of Mindat Town.
20 August 2024 –
Armed clashes broke out and intensified between local defense forces and SAC troops in Thantlang town in the morning of 20 August where SAC conducted airstrikes continuously and launched heavy weapons from the SAC military base in Hakha town. The Tilim Operation-4 was formed by the Chinland Council on 22 July and during the operation, SAC’s LIB-269 in Thantlang Town and 8 SAC camps between Hakha and Thantlang towns were attacked and seized by CC troops.
The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) based in Mizoram State and the leaders of the Chinland Council met on 20 August at the MZP’s headquarters in Aizawl. MZP said that they had agreed on three points in an effort to strengthen cooperation between the Chin tribes and matters for the emergence of unity in Chin State.
SAC troops set fire to the villages of Sadaw, Kyondaw and Yaeshin in the south of Kalay Township of Sagaing Region, and more than 40 houses were destroyed by fire on 20 August.
At least 3 school buildings were destroyed in a night-time SAC air raid on Daut Dwe Village, Mindat Township on 20 Aug (Tuesday). The village is located near Milepost 22 on Mindat-Matupi Road
Over 40 homes were destroyed when SAC ground troops from Northwestern Regional Military Command razed Thon Ein Su Village, on 20 Aug (Tuesday). The village is located about 3 miles southwest of Kalay Town, Sagaing Region.
21 August 2024 –
SAC forces launched airstrikes on the camp of the Tha Jay Battalion-7 of CDF-Kanpetlet, Kanpetlet Township, Chin State, at around 2:00 a.m. on 21 August, dropping three bombs. No one was killed or injured.
The CDF-Mindat announced that there could be a possible armed conflict with SAC troops at any time as the SAC has been conducting air strikes and drone strikes in Mindat Township, Chin state. SAC forces launched airstrikes and heavy weapons attacks in Area 1, Area 3 and Area 4 of the western part of the Mindat border area with the Kyauthtu area of Magway Division.
A 60-year-old woman lost one of her legs after stepping on a landmine close to her garden near the electricity station in Mindat town, Chin State on 21 August.
According to CDF – Matupi (Brigade – 1), local residents in the town has gradually returned to Matupi, after the town became empty in the midst of June 2024 when AA (Arakan Army) and CB (Chin Brotherhood) attacked against the military outpost in Matupi Town. A local contact on the ground said on 21 August: “Only a few returned to the town as the majority of the local population are still evacuated in different parts of Matupi Township and Mizoram, India.”
22 August 2024 –
SAC forces burnt down to ashes six civilian houses located near the Victoria boarding school in the west side of Mindat Town, Chin State at about 11 p.m. on 22 August. SAC’s LIB-274 Battalion based in Mindat town launched heavy weapons 4 times and took positions in the surrounding mountains while some were hiding in civilian houses.
On 22 August six houses in Mindat Town were set on fire due to artillery shelling by Battalion 274.
23 August 2024
Kam Khua Thawn, aged 45, stepped on a landmine near the hospital staff’s quarters close to the Tedim Civil Hospital and lost his right leg on 23 August. The incident took place while he was walking towards the town water supply tank. Local residents were told not to walk or move around government officials’ residences and Tedim Theological College located in Myoma Ward, Tedim Town due to landmines and unexploded ordinances.
The Senthang Revolution Force (SRF), a local defense group based in the Senthang area of Hakha Township, Chin State, successfully completed its first military training exercise on 23 August 2024. The SRF said that 130 people joined the training.
SAC forces delivered rations for soldiers currently based inside of Thantlang, using a Y-12 transport aircraft on 23 August.
A 45 yr-old local man lost his right leg to a landmine blast on the morning of 23 August. The landmine was believed to have been planted by LIB 269 near Tedim Civil Hospital. Nearly 3 dozen deaths & over 100 injuries have been attributed to landmine explosions in Chin State since 2021.
25 August 2024 –
SAC set fire to the village of Kyun Pyin Tha in Tamu Township, Sagaing Division on 25 August. “They burned down houses in Kyun Pyin Tha village again. They burned down once in the early morning and they also burned down once in the evening. I could see the smoke rising from a distance. I think more than 4 houses were burned,” a person close to the village told Zalen. Pyusawhti (pro-SAC militia) started burning the houses of the local residents in Kyun Pyin Tha village on 14 August. It was reported that it was the fourth time they had made this kind of inhumane act, and more than 25 houses had been burned down.
26 August 2024 –
Two men identified as Aung Nan and Kyaw Win, both from Baungwi village, arrested by the Arakan Army, Paletwa Township, Chin State, were released on 26 August. A person close to the arrested members told Kimo Media: “After they have been released and they are not going anywhere, they are just staying in the village.” The two released members from Paletwa Town prison were among the nine locals, including two teachers, arrested by the AA on 17 May in Baungwi and Baungku villages. Two villagers from Baungwi, three villagers from Baungku, four villagers from Tamanthar and Teinlet, and two villagers from Sarchaung in Paletwa Township are still being held by the AA.
Airstrike attacks were reported in Mindat Township. On 26 August 2024, the SAC’s two jet fighters dropped bombs at least four times in the outskirts of Mindat town. No casualties were reported during the incidents.
27 August 2024 –
One SAC soldier surrendered himself with an MA3 gun to the CDF Tonzang on 27 August, CDF-Tonzang. The CDF-Tonzang announced that the SAC soldier who surrendered and joined the people with weapons was given 50 lakh kyats as the financial reward.
A local woman, about aged 60 lost her leg after she stepped on a landmine on 27 August while harvesting a jackfruit in a garden near the township Electricity Department Office in Mandat Township.
28 August 2024 –
SAC’s Y-12 plane arrived and delivered food supplies to the LIB-274 Battalion based in Mindat Town on 28 August.
29 August 2024 –
A SAC soldier named Cinh Lam Mung (Tah-562399) from SAC’s LIB-268 Battalion based in Falam town, Chin State, joined the Tedim Community Administration Group on 29 August. “The Tedim Community Administration Group welcomes and accepts the SAC soldier,” stated by the TCAG. The Group is under the PDF-Zoland, a local defense group in Tedim Township.
The Arakan Army released two Chin detainees on 29 August 2024 and it is reported that two still remained in AA detention centers. AA arrested a total of nine Khumi residents on 17 May 2024.
30 August 2024 –
There were two airstrikes launched by SAC forces in Mindat Township on 30 August, but information about the damage remains unknown.
Non-CDM (civil disobedience movement) employees of SAC’s departments in Chin State have not received their salaries since June reportedly due to cash shortages at banks in Chin State. “With the current increasing prices of goods and others, we cannot survive without a salary, especially those with many family members. We have not been paid for one or two months. I do not expect to get it this month either,” said a non-CDM employee from Hakha town. “There was no more money in the bank of Tedim. Even when they transfer money from the bank either through K-pay or Wave Pay from Kalay town. There is no money to withdraw in Tedim although the money can be transferred from Tedim,” said a non-CDM employee from Tedim.
A jet fighter from the Nay Pyi Taw Air Force launched two airstrikes near Mindat Township, dropping 500-pound bombs and smaller bombs on 30 August.
After the CDF Mindat acknowledged possible attacks and armed clashes in Mindat areas, the SAC carried out military supplies through military jets at LIB – 274 base in Mindat. At the same time, the SAC also delivered supplies in Thantlang Town through military jets where the armed forces from Chinland Council are continuously engaging in offensive attacks and the occupation of the town. Apart from supplies through air, there is no SAC military reinforcement and ground operations in Chin State.
On 30 August, the Arakan Army released five more arrested Chin (Khumi) civilians after the Interim Khumi Affairs Consultative Council (IKACC) negotiated for the release of arrested individuals with AA on 19 August 2024.
31 August 2024 –
SAC soldiers set fire to civilian houses in the village of Maygyigone in the southern part of Kalay Township, Sagaing Division at about 6 a.m. on 31 August. It is reported that about 100 SAC troops stationed in Zingalin village divided into three groups and raided Maygyigone, and started setting fire to houses. “About 4 houses have been burnt down. At the same time, they are shooting heavy weapons and dropping bombs with drones as well,” said a local resident.
SAC forces carried out at least two airstrikes with 500-pound bombs on the village of M’Shinghlaw (Circuit No. 2) in Mindat Township, Chin State at about 3 a.m. on 31 August. A local resident said: “Two bombs were dropped. One bomb landed on the outskirts of the village where it hit about three houses. And it is not sure where the other one landed. Military flight scouts are coming all the way now. We have to be careful.” It is estimated that SAC forces carried out at least 30 airstrikes in Mindat Township in the month of August alone.
From around 9:00 a.m. until around 10:00 a.m., SAC Y-12 airplanes dropped food items and other supplies with parachutes at the LIB-274 base in Mindat town. Consecutively on 30 and 31 August 2024, the SAC conducted airstrike attacks around villages near Mindat town, damaging some civilian homes. No civilian and other casualties were reported.
On 31 August, a mother of four children was killed after stepping on a landmine in Sami Town of Paletwa Township. It is reported that she stepped on a landmine near the previous military outpost while she was searching for food.
Petrol prices have increased in Kalay town of Sagaing Region from 8,500 Kyats per liter to 10,000 Kyats in recent days. “At the petrol pump stations, the price of 1 liter is around 10,000 Kyats while some retail shops sell it at more than 10,000 kyats,” said a local resident.
A township-wide conference was held from 29 to 31 August 2024 where 89 representatives of local administrative bodies, tribal groups, CDF-Kanpetlet and committees in Kanpetlet Township attended. A statement released at the end of the three-day event containing 4 points highlighted that they would cooperate with the Chin Brotherhood and its allies, and with the Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC).
On 18 August, the SAC’s Ministry of Education announced that applications for university admission would be open from 26 August to 12 September. As of the end of August, there was no application made to the Hakha University.
Meeting between the Chinland Council and the Interim Chin National Consultative Committee (ICNCC), mediated by a Swedish based Crisis Management Initiative (CMI), was postponed. According to a spokesperson of the Chinland Council, the meeting was cancelled with no limitation timeline for further meeting. The meeting was scheduled in New Delhi in the last week of August 2024.
