Chin MP dies after motorbike accident

6 January 2017 — Hung Khen, Chin MP from Matupi township, Chin State, passed away early this morning after getting serious injuries in his head in a motorbike accident in Matupi town yesterday.

The 38-year-old politician, who won the 2015 election from the Matupi Constituency No. 1, died at about 3:40am at the Mindat General Hospital on the way as he was being taken towards the General Hospital in Mandalay.

According to the government of Chin State, the incident took place around 6pm while he was riding his motorbike in Matupi town. It stated that he was hit and got unconscious on the spot as he was severely injured in his head.

Salai Isaac Khen, State minister of Municipal Affairs, Electricity and Industry, posted on Facebook that his body would be taken to Matupi after a worship service held at a Baptist church in Mindat this morning.

Hung Khen, a candidate of the National League for Democracy, contested the last election and won a seat in the State Hluttaw.

Born to a Christian family of Aum Khu and Hu Khin, he completed B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc in Chemistry.#
