13 July 2026 – More than 1,000 foreign nationals, including Myanmar citizens and several Chin people, were arrested during a large-scale immigration operation in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia, on 12 July, according to Malaysian authorities and local sources.
The operation, known as “Op Mega,” was led by the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) with support from several government agencies. About 250 officers carried out surprise inspections around the Klang bus terminal, targeting shops, businesses, and worker dormitories. Authorities said some undocumented migrants attempted to flee but were apprehended after escape routes were blocked.
Those detained included nationals of Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Indonesia, and India. Paul Ngun Luai Thang, chairman of the Chin Refugee Committee-Malaysia (CRC-Malaysia), told Khumiland News that at least four or five Chin nationals were believed to be among those arrested, although the exact number has yet to be confirmed.
Authorities also raided a hotel suspected of operating as a brothel, where they seized items related to prostitution and arrested a 32-year-old Myanmar man who was allegedly hiding in a bathroom.
The detainees have been taken to the Selangor Immigration Office for investigation under Malaysia’s Immigration Act 1959/63, including alleged immigration offenses such as overstaying or lacking valid visas or work permits. Malaysian authorities said similar enforcement operations would continue.#
