11 July 2026 — The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) launched a series of concentrated airstrikes across Kanpetlet and Mindat townships in Chin State on Friday morning, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing regional conflict.
According to local reports, a Y-12 bomber aircraft conducted 16 bombing runs between 6:10 am and 7:12 am on 11 July.
The operation involved the deployment of over 25 bombs, dropped in clusters of two and three. Six runs targeted the eastern part of Kanpetlet township, followed by 10 additional runs over eastern Mindat.
While local sources indicated this activity, the precise extent of civilian casualties and infrastructure damage remains unverified at this stage due to the volatile security environment and communication disruptions in the area.
These attacks are consistent with a sustained military offensive that has gripped southern parts of Chin State since mid-May 2026. The SSPC has deployed approximately 2,000 troops to the region in a coordinated effort to retake towns captured by revolutionary joint forces in late 2024. This aerial campaign is frequently synchronized with ground operations moving from Saw township toward Kanpetlet.
The July 11 strikes follow a period of heightened aerial activity earlier in the month. Between 3 and 6 July, the SSPC carried out repeated airstrikes across the same townships, utilizing both Y-12 bombers and fighter jets. Preliminary reports from those earlier engagements suggested significant damage to civilian property and injuries to several residents.
The Chin People’s Union and the Chin People’s Army (CPU/CPA), which have been leading the defensive resistance against the SSPC offensive, continue to urge residents to exercise extreme caution. In previous statements, the resistance groups have advised civilians to avoid crowded areas, maintain vigilance regarding aerial activity, and prepare bomb shelters and trenches at home to minimize exposure to the ongoing air campaign.
As the military continues its efforts to re-establish strategic dominance in the region, both local residents and observers are advised to rely exclusively on verified and official statements, as misinformation on social media platforms continues to fuel public confusion. – Reporting by Ben
