2 July 2026 – The Chin People’s Army (CPA) and allied resistance forces claimed they inflicted heavy losses on State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) troops during more than a month of fighting in Chin State, saying hundreds of soldiers were killed and large quantities of weapons and military equipment were seized.

In a statement released on 2 July, the CPA said thousands of SSPC troops, supported by Pyusawhtee (Pro-SSPC-Militia), launched an offensive into Mindat and Kanpetlet townships via Saw township in the Yaw region on 16 May.

The CPA stated it coordinated with allied resistance groups, including the Yaw Defence Force (YDF), Yaw Army (YA), and other partner forces, to conduct sustained defensive and counteroffensive operations against the advancing military columns.

According to the CPA, the SSPC junta offensive suffered heavy casualties, with hundreds of SSPC soldiers killed and many more wounded. The group also claimed the military columns became disorganised and were forced to retreat after sustaining significant losses.

During the fighting, allied resistance forces said they seized large quantities of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment, recovered the bodies of fallen soldiers, and captured several prisoners of war.

The CPA further accused SSPC forces of escalating airstrikes, artillery shelling, and drone attacks against both military and civilian areas following setbacks on the ground. It said the attacks have damaged homes and religious buildings and resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children.

The statement reaffirmed the CPA’s commitment to continue resisting the military offensive alongside allied resistance groups and local communities, pledging to intensify operations until the offensive is defeated. – Reporting by Ben
