18 June 2026 – A State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military soldier allegedly attempted to rape a married woman and robbed her of personal belongings in Baila village, Falam township, Chin State, on 16 June.

According to local residents and regional media reports, the soldier reportedly entered the woman’s home while she was alone, threatened her with a firearm, and forced her to leave the house. Her husband was said to be away in Falam town at the time.

He allegedly took the woman to a cemetery area outside the village, where he ordered her to remove her clothing and threatened to kill her if she refused.

The incident was reportedly interrupted when the woman’s husband returned and, finding her missing, began searching for her with other family members. Upon hearing their calls, the soldier allegedly stole the woman’s mobile phone and other valuables before fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, the woman and her family left the area due to security concerns. Baila village is located near Lungpi village along the Falam-Hakha Road, approximately seven miles from Falam town and about a ten-minute motorcycle ride away.

Local residents said the incident has heightened fear within the community and raised concerns about the conduct of SSPC military troops stationed in and around Falam town since the SSPC military regained control of the town. – Reporting by Daniel
