KALAY, Sagaing Region, 17 June 2026 – The Lighthouse IDP Assistance Group (Kalay), a key community-based organization providing aid to displaced families, has announced its permanent closure following the death of its team leader, Mr. Thu Rain Zin.

In an official statement released on June 17, the organization confirmed that all operations ceased effective 16 June 2026.

For the past two years, Lighthouse acted as a vital support network for those fleeing the ongoing conflict in the Sagaing and Chin regions. Founded with the mission to serve as a “small beacon of hope” for populations facing displacement and severe hardship, the organization provided essential assistance ranging from food and shelter to physical and logistical support.

The closure marks a significant loss for the local aid sector, which is currently operating under immense strain. The security landscape in the region remains highly volatile, characterized by frequent airstrikes, indiscriminate artillery fire, and escalating military operations that have devastated civilian infrastructure and forced thousands to flee their homes.

As noted in recent humanitarian reports, local aid groups frequently face the dual challenge of navigating strict security checkpoints and managing the risks associated with active conflict zones while attempting to deliver aid to IDP camps.

In the wake of Mr. Thu Rain Zin’s passing, the organization expressed deep gratitude for his leadership, noting that he often worked beyond the call of duty to support those in desperate need. “We cannot help but ask how you were able to leave everyone behind so suddenly,” the group wrote in a tribute. “We believe that you will forever be remembered with pride and respect as a hero and an extraordinary individual.”

The Lighthouse leadership also extended their thanks to the revolutionary comrades, donors, and community members who collaborated with them throughout the group’s tenure.

The organization has issued a clear warning to the public regarding potential fraud. They stated that any fundraising activities currently being conducted under the name “Lighthouse IDP Assistance Group” are not authorized.

“We emphasize that we will not accept or solicit donations under any circumstances,” the announcement read.
