21 May 2026 – A month-old infant died following a Myanmar military junta airstrike on Matupi town in Chin State, according to a local resource.

Late on 19 May between 11:00 pm and midnight, junta aircraft launched a bombing raid on Matupi. A newborn infant, who was already dealing with existing health issues, suffered extreme distress during the attack. Despite being quickly taken to the hospital, the child passed away the following day, 20 May.

According to The Matupi Times, residents said, “The baby was not even one month old. When the bombing occurred, the child became severely frightened. The family rushed her to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save her life. It is deeply heartbreaking that an innocent baby girl lost her life in this way.”

The infant was identified as the daughter of U Salo, a resident originally from the Lui Vang village in Matupi township. The family was staying in a neighbourhood close to the blast site at the time of the attack.

The 19 May airstrike also caused damage to an indoor sports hall near the golf course in Cabawng Ward, while nearby buildings at No. 2 Basic Education High School also sustained damage from the explosions.

Junta airstrikes have intensified in recent weeks, with repeated aerial attacks reported across Matupi, Mindat, and Kanpetlet townships amid ongoing clashes between junta forces and local resistance groups. – Reporting by Ben
