21 May 2026 — Military troops from the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) committed a third arson attack on Chuncung village, a community under the control of local defence forces, bringing the total number of destroyed civilian homes to 26.
The latest attack occurred on the night of May 20, when three more homes were set ablaze.
This followed two major attacks earlier in the month, with seven houses burned on 14 May, and another 16 houses torched on 15 May, bringing the total to 23 homes destroyed within two days.
A local resident confirmed that his father’s house was among those destroyed in the May 20 incident.
The continued destruction in Chuncung, which is located on the Hakha-Falam Road, is part of intensified military operations by the SSPC junta across Chin State.
This violence occurs as residents in the region face ongoing insecurity and displacement; for instance, internally displaced persons (IDPs) are currently receiving clothing donations in Hakha. – Reporting by Daniel
