19 May 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out an airstrike near Tapyin village in Saw township, Yaw region of Magway Region yesterday.

According to local sources, two Yak-130 fighter jets from the Naypyitaw Air Force dropped four 300-pound bombs on an area northwest of Tapyin village at around 6:50 pm.

The extent of casualties and damage caused by the attack has not yet been confirmed.

The airstrike came as an SSPC military column of around 400 troops under Division 99 had remained stationed in Tapyin village since 15 May.

Local sources said the troops have been temporarily based in the village for four consecutive days.

The SSPC military presence forced many villagers to flee to safer areas. However, some elderly residents and civilians who were unable to escape reportedly remain trapped inside the village.

Local sources also accused SSPC troops of looting homes and using village supplies during their stay.

In a separate incident, a 34-year-old woman with mental health challenges was reportedly sexually assaulted and killed by SSPC soldiers on the afternoon of 18 May. The report has not yet been independently verified.

Sources said the military column is expected to continue toward Artillery Battalion 368 in Kyaukhtu. Another SSPC column of around 80 troops was reportedly deployed from the Kyaukhtu side to support the operation and has reached the Ngalun village area. – Reporting by Ben
