17 April 2026 – Two civilians were killed and five others injured when a State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) jet fighter carried out an airstrike on Wun Le (Lower) village in southern Pauk township, Magway Region on 16 April.

According to local sources, a fighter jet from Meiktila Air Base dropped a 500-pound bomb on the village centre at around 2:40 pm. No active clashes were reported in the area at the time of the attack.

The strike claimed the lives of one man and one woman instantly, while five others sustained injuries, two of them critically. The death toll may rise as conditions of the wounded remain serious. Six homes were destroyed, and livestock were also killed or injured.

Later the same day, around 5:00 pm, SSPC forces launched a suicide drone attack near a telecommunications tower west of Pan Taw Kan village. No casualties were reported in that incident.

Residents in Pauk and neighbouring Myaing township have been urged to stay alert amid a noticeable increase in aerial operations.

Pauk township in central Magway Region has faced repeated SSPC airstrikes in recent months, often in areas with resistance activity or near strategic sites such as oil fields.

Similar incidents have occurred in nearby townships like Gangaw and Htilin, contributing to civilian displacement and heightened fear among local communities.

The latest attack took place while SSPC forces were conducting Thingyan festival celebrations in government-controlled areas, highlighting the contrast between areas under their influence and resistance-held zones where military operations continue to intensify.

This incident adds to the growing toll of civilian casualties from airstrikes across Myanmar since the 2021 military takeover, as the SSPC relies heavily on air power in its campaigns against People’s Defence Forces and allied resistance groups in central and western regions.#
