15 May 2026 – The Saw Township People’s Defence Team (PaKaFa) warned that fighting could break out at any time and in any part of Saw town, Magway Region, after junta troops entered and took positions across the town.

In a statement issued today, the group said the security situation remains highly unstable and urged residents to move to safer areas and avoid locations that could become conflict areas.

According to the statement, the SSPC (State Security and Peace Commission) junta military column, estimated to include between 300 and 500 troops, began deploying across Saw town in the early hours of 14 May.

A resident in Saw town told the Chinland Guardian on conditions of anonymity: “As there are more SSPC troops moving into the town and there are more threats, we all have no choice but to leave our places to other locations we think are safer. We are now in villages.”

He also said that some families having pregnant women and elderly persons still remained as it was so challenging for them to move out. “Renting vehicles is very expensive and it is not easy to find vehicles and drivers as they are also afraid of traveling.”

The SSPC military column reportedly arrested and assaulted civilians during operations in the town, with more than 20 young civilians believed to have been detained.

Some detainees were reportedly released, although the exact number of arrests and releases has not yet been confirmed. – Reporting by Ben
