15 May 2026 – Chin youths from Myanmar and abroad are planning to establish the Chin Youth Congress (CYC) to strengthen unity, cooperation, and youth participation, following the Chin Youth Forum – Aizawl held on 8-9 May.
Organizers said the proposed congress will serve as a platform to reconnect Chin youths, address shared challenges, and amplify their voices. They noted that many organizations have become fragmented despite increased youth engagement in political, social, and resistance movements since the 2021 military coup.
The congress framework will be based on forum recommendations, with draft principles to be finalized before a formal congress is convened to adopt them and elect an executive committee.
The forum was attended by 41 participants, including 25 in person and 16 online from inside Myanmar and abroad.
A member of the CYC Working Committee told Chinland Guardian that representatives from nine townships across Chin State had been invited to attend the forum, although delegates from Tonzang and Kanpetlet were unable to participate due to the ongoing political situation.
The committee member added that the forum also restructured its leadership into four divisions and agreed to continue developing its organisational structure and policies over the next six months ahead of a future conference involving township representatives.
He added that the forum is being funded through internal fundraising efforts and that the CYC Working Committee currently has 19 members. – Reporting by Daniel
