11 May 2026 – The Hakha Rual-U Association, a local group that manages the cemetery, announced a significant increase in the burial fee for Cemetery No. 1, effective 11 May 2026, citing unavoidable rising construction and maintenance costs.

In an official statement released on 8 May, the association confirmed that the fee has been raised by 100,000 Kyats, from the previous rate of 700,000 Kyats to the new rate of 800,000 Kyats per gravestone.

The organization stated it attempted to keep costs affordable for Hakha town residents and church members, but increasing material costs necessitated the adjustment.

Alongside the fee hike, new regulations were introduced to enforce uniformity, limiting gravestones to plaques measuring approximately 2 feet by 1 foot. Residents are urged to comply with the updated fees and guidelines.

The fee adjustment comes amid broader regional instability. Chin State continues to face intense military activity, civilian displacement, and a humanitarian crisis, which contributes to the rapid increase in commodity and material costs across the region. – Reporting by Daniel
