9 May 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military forces ordered all government staff who did not join the Civil Disobedience Movement (Non-CDM) to return to Falam town by 15 May 2026, from Kalay town in Sagaing Region.
This directive is part of the SSPC’s attempt to restore administrative operations in the volatile township, following the recent deployment of more than 100 non-CDM civil servants to the area.
According to local sources, the operation is underway.
Non-CDM staff previously transported to Falam on 6 May are being housed collectively under tight restrictions inside the city hall compound. They are reportedly not allowed to leave the premises and must rely on food provided by SSPC authorities.
The forced return comes as the SSPC seeks to consolidate its presence in the region, a goal reflected by the ongoing renovation and repair work at the Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 268 base in Falam town.
The broader region remains unstable, marked by continuous military movements, airstrikes, and the displacement of thousands of civilians in nearby townships. – Reporting by Daniel
