6 May 2026 – Residents of L. Zamual village in Falam township, Chin State, have been forced to evacuate their homes after a State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military column arrived and took up a position nearby.
The column, estimated at around 100 troops, reached a hill close to L. Zamual on 5 May and remains stationed there.
Due to the military presence, residents from L. Zamual and surrounding communities have fled to the safety of nearby forested and mountainous areas to preemptively avoid conflict.
A local resident confirmed the fear driving the displacement, stating, “The troops have not entered the village yet, but they are positioned on a hill close to it. Because of this, villagers are afraid and have fled into the forest for safety”.
L. Zamual is situated more than 10 miles from Taal village along the Falam-Hakha Road. Recent days have been marked by escalating combat between SSPC units and local resistance groups in the vicinity of Taal and throughout the Falam-Hakha Road corridor. – Reporting by Daniel
