5 May 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military has intensified its offensive operations in an effort to regain control of the Falam-Hakha Road corridor, carrying out further airstrikes near the Laiva Hydropower Plant yesterday, a key energy facility in Chin State.
According to local sources, the airstrike targeted elevated ground near the plant at approximately 2:30 pm, with bombs dropped by an SSPC aircraft. At present, a SSPC military column is reported to have advanced as far as Taal village in Falam township.
A resident of Taal village said: “We heard that an aircraft dropped bombs toward the Laiva area at around 2:40 pm yesterday. We do not yet have detailed information.”
Similarly, on 18 April, airstrikes in the Laiva and Tlangzar areas destroyed approximately six civilian homes.
Another local resident added: “Our Taal village was previously set on fire by the SSPC military around July 2022, and many homes were destroyed. Now that troops have approached the area again, the entire village has fled. There is no choice. If people remain, they risk being shot or used as human shields. We have now been displaced for many days. With the rainy season approaching soon, we are especially concerned about food and water, particularly for children.”
Clashes between Chin resistance forces and advancing SSPC military units are ongoing in the surrounding area. – Reporting by Daniel
