1 May 2026 – Heavy fighting erupted on the Falam-Hakha highway in Chin State, Myanmar, as forces from the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) clashed with allied Chin resistance fighters, according to local sources.
The violence began on the morning of 1 May when an estimated 400 SSPC troops, advancing from Falam toward Hakha, reached the area between Taal and Tlangzar villages.
During the ongoing engagements, SSPC forces reportedly set fire to numerous civilian homes in both the old and new sections of Thlanrawn village. The exact number of houses destroyed remains unconfirmed due to the continuing conflict.
SSPC troops are currently deployed along the highway, maintaining ambush positions, prompting community leaders to warn all civilians and travelers to completely avoid the Falam-Hakha Road.
This highway battle is part of an intensifying military offensive by the SSPC across Chin State. Recent military actions have included midnight airstrikes in Falam township and aerial attacks in Kyindwe.
The region is grappling with severe humanitarian consequences, with reports of civilian casualties, such as an elderly woman shot dead by junta troops, and fears of forced recruitment. – Reporting by Daniel
