30 April 2026 – Tedim town in Chin State is witnessing a massive civilian exodus as fears of an imminent offensive by resistance forces intensify.
Local reports indicate that approximately half of the town’s 15,000 residents—roughly 7,500 people—have already fled their homes to escape potential conflict.
Panic escalated following a military airstrike by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) on Khuaimual village on the morning of 30 April. This strike is part of a broader escalation of military activities by the SSPC across Chin State, including midnight airstrikes and intensified surveillance.
The current displacement reflects deep-seated trauma from previous fighting in May 2024, when conflict in Tedim resulted in the destruction of over 70 homes by junta forces.
Displaced residents are now seeking refuge in nearby villages, Kalay town, and India’s Mizoram State.
A mounting humanitarian crisis is unfolding as those fleeing face acute shortages of transport and shelter. Rising costs of living and the overcrowding of refuge areas like Kalay town are placing immense pressure on the displaced population.
The situation remains critical as the SSPC continues to mobilize forces and restrict press freedom within the region.
Most government staff have remained in the town, while the majority of civilians continue to seek safety elsewhere amid the uncertain security environment. – Reporting by Daniel
