Airstrikes damage homes in Tlangzar village, Falam township

18 April 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military carried out multiple airstrikes on Tlangzar village and the nearby Laiva hydropower plant in Falam township early on 18 April, damaging civilian homes and infrastructure but causing no reported casualties.

Local sources said the first attack occurred around 3:00 am when a jet fighter from Tada-U Air Base dropped bombs on the village, located about 12 miles south of Falam town along the Falam-Hakha Road. A Y-12 reconnaissance aircraft had been circling overhead since approximately 1:00 am, prompting many residents to evacuate in advance.

Residents reported that roughly six to ten homes were damaged or destroyed, including strikes near staff housing in the village’s Electric Power Corporation (EPC) ward. Some accounts mentioned two bombs hitting the village and one targeting the Laiva hydropower plant.

A second strike around 11:50 am reportedly hit a school and several nearby houses. No fighting was ongoing in the area at the time of the attacks.

Tlangzar village has endured repeated violence since the 2021 military takeover, including previous airstrikes, arson attacks, and ground operations. In February 2026, it was among several Falam township villages targeted during Chin National Day celebrations, when SSPC aircraft dropped dozens of bombs across the area.

The latest incident reflects the SSPC’s increasing reliance on air power in its campaign to regain control of Falam and the surrounding Kalay-Tedim-Falam road corridor, where coordinated operations and clashes with Chin resistance forces have intensified in recent weeks.

A separate airstrike on Mindat town on 10 April killed one civilian and injured at least ten others while damaging more than 20 buildings.
