Two robbery incidents in northern Gangaw township

16 March 2026 – Two robbery incidents were reported in northern Gangaw township, Magway Region, according to local sources.

In the latest case, an armed robbery occurred at around 11:00 pm on 15 March at a farm hut in the Chaungkauk village area on the eastern bank of the Myittha River.

According to an initial report by Yaw Alinn Tan, local sources said that three armed men entered the farm hut of Mr. Naing Myint, a resident of Myin Thar village, who was staying there with his family while working on his hillside farm.

The suspects reportedly carried homemade firearms and had their faces covered with cloth.

During the robbery, the attackers took three gold necklaces, two pairs of gold earrings, cash worth several million kyats, and one mobile phone. No deaths were reported.

In a separate incident on 14 March, a man from Nhamkhar village was assaulted and robbed while returning home from a trip. The attack took place at around 8:00 pm near a mango plantation between Ye Hla and Mwe Hlae villages.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was reportedly attacked by four individuals who beat him and took the money and belongings he was carrying. He sustained serious injuries and was later taken back to his village for medical treatment.

The robbery and theft cases have increased in northern Gangaw township in recent months. Some residents linked the incidents to illegal gambling activities operating near Ye Hla and Yeshinma villages along the Gangaw–Kalay Union Highway. – Reporting by Ben
