17 February 2026 —The Lawngtlai District Magistrate has ordered the closure of all India–Myanmar border trade routes in the district for two months due to security concerns following the death of a Mizoram truck driver in Myanmar.
In an order issued on 16 February, District Magistrate Donny Lalruatsanga stated that all border trade routes adjoining Lawngtlai District in Mizoram will remain closed for a period of two months or until further notice.

The order prohibits cross-border movement without official permission. No foreign nationals will be allowed to enter, and the transportation or import of goods across the border is suspended. The restrictions apply to vehicles from Lawngtlai as well as from other districts.
The decision follows the death of 37-year-old Mr. Lalremsanga, a resident of Lawngtlai’s AOC locality. He went missing on 12 February while delivering goods by pickup truck to Salachhuah (Shinletwa) village in Paletwa township, Chin State. His body was recovered on 15 February in an area reportedly controlled by the Arakan Army (AA).
A resident in Lawngtlawi town told the Chinland Guardian that the road leading from Lawngtlai to Salacchuah has been closed and that no one or no truck is allowed to go.
Salachhuah is a key route for transporting food, fuel, and other essential goods from southern Mizoram to Paletwa township and parts of Rakhine State.
In response to the incident, the Central Young Lai Association (CYLA) and the Lawngtlai District Pickup Association have also announced the suspension of border trade activities. – Reporting by Ben
