Hakha, 2 December 2025 – The Hakha Baptist Association (HBA) hosted a prayer and dinner service on Sunday for internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently sheltering in Hakha town, the capital of Chin State.
Local data indicates that the estimated number of IDPs in the area exceeds 5,000 individuals, originating from at least six townships across Chin State. The majority have fled conflict in Falam and Thantlang townships.
Specifically, 703 households, comprising 2,658 people, have arrived from Falam, while approximately 260 households and 860 people have sought refuge from Thantlang.
An IDP committee leader from Thantlang expressed gratitude, stating to the Chinland Guardian, “We feel immensely blessed to be here. The churches and communities have shown us great kindness. They help and look after us. Although we miss our homes and long to return, their support has helped us feel a sense of home. We are truly grateful for their generosity.”
IDPs from the southern part of Chin State, including Paletwa township, are also seeking shelter in Hakha. Furthermore, the town is hosting individuals who fled parts of the Sagaing and Magway Regions following the 2021 coup.
