A Chin woman, who is identified as Mai Aye Aye Thein, was found dead at her residence in Bahan Township, Yangon last Thursday.

Thein, in her early thirties, was believed to have already been killed and left in her room when her flatmate came home from work around 2 pm and saw her body.

There were serious injuries in her head and knees, according to sources from Chin communities in Yangon.

Bahan police had been informed of the incident and have been dealing with the case, sources said.

“We are sorry to hear about this sad news. But we don’t know exactly what happened to her. It looks like she was killed,” said a Sumtu Chin in Yangon who asked not to be named.

As of today, information remains unknown as to who was responsible and about the motives for the death.

Thein, who was originally from Ru Chin village, Ann Township, Rakhine State, belongs to Sumtu Chin tribe.

According to the Sumtu Chin community’s leader, the body of Mai Aye Aye Thein had been taken to her family in her native village.#
