Authorities ban imported alcohol in Matupi

13 October 2015 — The authorities in Matupi, Chin State ordered local shop-owners to stop selling alcohol imported from foreign countries.

Officials from the General Administration Department, Police Force, and Ward Administration as well as town-elders imposed new restrictions on alcoholic drinks.

Salai B, a Matupi resident, told the Chin Human Rights Organization that the shops were not allowed to sell the products although they had the official license.

The authorities said that any alcoholic drinks would be sold only between 6am and 7pm and that any shop violating the instructions would end up losing the license to them.

He added that owners of the three licensed bars were summoned and forced to sign a document saying that they would follow the order.#
