Internet Newsletter Banned In Chin State

An Internet-based newsletter, locally known as Maivan Cazual, has been banned from its weekly online publication by SPDC township authorities in Thantlang, Chin State since last week.

The order came as a shock to the readers worldwide as the weekly newsletter in Hakha-Chin dialect was in preparation for bringing out its 16th edition.
“We were so much surprised when the authorities issued an order to stop publishing our newsletter days after its 15th edition. We don’t know the reasons and how long it will be banned. That is the reason why this week’s edition is not out on the Internet,” said one of the newsletter editors, whose name is not revealed.
One source claimed that another church-based newsletter called Arfi Cazual has also been ordered to discontinue its publications in the town.
The Maivan Cazual, which mainly features local news in a short and easy-to-read format, has received positive comments from its Internet-based readers worldwide. It has been privately run and operated by a group of young local enthusiasts whose lives can be in jeopardy due to their voluntary literary work.
