Chin Singers to Rock for Educational Fund in Rangoon

18 August 2011: A band of famous Chin singers Chaw Su Khin, Cindy, Jo Jar, Sangpi, Sung Tin Par, Zam Nu and Van Dawt Cin, aka Moe Moe, are to team up with other popular Burmese vocalists in a concert to raise educational fund on 17 September 2011.

The event organised to take place in Kamayut Township of Rangoon by the Chin Education Network (CEN) is set to have Burmese singers including Chit Thu Wei and Shin Phone, with Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein and L. Lon Wa yet to be confirmed.

Joshua Tial Hnin, CEN Director, said: “We are organising this concert in an effort to help Chin students in Chin State and Sagaing Division, who cannot afford to continue their studies. CEN would like to send a message to those who are hopeless and helpless at the moment that there is always hope for the future if you have education and skills.”

The proceeds from the upcoming concert will be used for teaching English and Basic Social Sciences to ‘poor’ Chin students in Chin State and Kalaymyo District of Sagaing Division, Burma.

Salai Mang Hre Lian, Concert Coordinator, expressed a word of thanks to all the singers for their warm acceptance to voluntarily take part in the programme amid their busy schedules.

The Chin Education Network (CEN) was founded in Rangoon, Burma in March 2010 by a group of Chin youths including students, NGO workers, educational advisors, teachers and social activists committed to and interested in post-secondary education and the development of Chin People.
