Chin Christian Leaders Attended BWA Conference in Malaysia

18 July 2011: A group of Chin Christian pastors from Burma, Malaysia and USA participated in the annual gathering of Baptist World Alliance held from 4-9 July in Kualua Lumpur, Malaysia.

One senior pastor from Malaysia, two from Burma and another two from the US, Rev. Dr. C. Duh Kam and Rev. Rollin Vanbik attended the BWA Conference as part of their visit to Chin refugees from Burma in Malaysia, according to the Seihnam newsletter.

At one of the sessions during the six-day gathering, one of the Chin pastors gave a presentation on the current situation of Chin refugees in Malaysia.

In an interview with the Seihnam newsletter in Malaysia, Rev. Dr. C. Duh Kam, Executive Minister of Chin Baptist Churches in USA (CBCUSA), said it was great that we had a chance to share the Chin issues with the BWA attendants from across the world.

The Chin Christian leaders alongside Rev. Dr. Roy Medley, General Secretary of American Baptist Churches, also met with the UNHCR officials in Kuala Lumpur.

One of the Chin leaders in Malaysia said: “It is very worrying that we have Chin refugees from Burma, including children, women and the elderly, arriving in Malaysia on a daily basis.”

There are more than 40,000 Chin refugees from Burma currently stranded in Malaysia in search of safety after fleeing brutalities inflicted upon them by the military authorities in Chin State.
