Chin Female Boxer to Fight in International Boxing Tournament

01 July 2011: Chin female boxer Mai Nelly Bawi Nei Sin will fly to Jakarta, Indonesia tomorrow with her other team members representing Burma in the 21st edition of the traditional President’s Cup International Boxing Tournament.

The tournament which will be held from 2-9 July after a seven-year halt is expected to see over 200 boxers from around 30 countries in Asia.

Mai Nelly Bawi Nei Sin was quoted as saying by the Chin World Media that she has been working hard alongside other team members practising with the coaches.

“I am not sure who I will be fighting with. I would like to request a special prayer from the Chin people,” added the second-year Chin student at Mandalay University.

The 10-member Burmese squad, with 6 male and 4 female boxers, will compete against opponents from Russia, China, Kazakhstan, India, Afghanistan, Australia, Bhutan, Botswana, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan and Vietnam.

In April this year, Mai Nelly Bawi Nei Sin went to Turkey as one of Burma’s selected two female boxers to take part in the Women’s Junior and Youth World Championships.
