Chin Party Expected to Win in Capital

8 November 2010: The Chin National Party (CNP) is expected to win all parliamentary seats contested in Hakha Township, according to information received by Chinland Guardian today.

Early results,obtained by the Chin Human Rights Organization, an organization monitoring elections in Chin State, and made available to CG, indicate that the Chin National Party is winning the majority of votes  across Hakha Township. Hakha Township has more than 22,000 registered voters.

Results of the vote count from more than 30 polling stations out of a total 72 in the Township, overwhelmingly favor the Chin National Party.

Expectations are high for the Chin party in other parts of Chin State as initial results are coming in from different polling stations at the end of yesterday’s polls.

“Based on the numbers we have received so far, the CNP has got abour 90 percent of the votes in all constituencies we contest,” said a CNP candidate contesting from Tedim Township for a seat in the People Parliament.

But the results of the vote count yesterday have not been officially announced.The results from each polling station are to be tallied up at the Township Peace and Development Council Office before they are sent to the District Election Commission Office, which will officially declare the results.

Four parties are contesting in Hakha Township: The Chin National Party (CNP), Chin Progressive Party,Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), and the National Unity Party (NUP).
