Chin Christian Leaders Attended Baptist World Congress
05 August 2010: A delegation of 58 Christian leaders from Burma including 8 from Chin ethnic group attended the 20th Baptist World Congress held in Honolulu, Hawaii from 28 July to 1 August 2010.
And other Chin Christian delegates from the USA including Rev. Dr. Chum Awi, Pu Stanley Hram Uk, Rev. Dr. Thla Awr Bawihrin and Pi Ngun Cia, also participated in the five-day congress with more than 4,000 Baptists from 105 countries across the globe.
After attending the congress with its motto reading “Hear The Spirit”, some of the Chin delegates from Burma are now visiting in the States, meeting with Chin communities, churches and organisations based in the USA.
More than 30 delegates from the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), Nagaland, a state located in the far north-eastern part of India, were said to have participated and performed a choir.
Delegates at the congress engaged in Bible studies in nine Asian and European languages, and reflected on and discussed various topics of theological, social and ethical significance to Baptists, including pastoral leadership, Christian worship, Christian-Muslim relationships, human trafficking, and the environment, according to the news by Baptist World Alliance.
The 21st Baptist World Congress will be held in Durban, South Africa, in July 2015.
