Chin Singer Won Second Prize In Burma’s Singing Contest
30 December, 2009: Ms Van Dawt Cin aka Moe Moe last Sunday won the second prize of ‘Melody World’ in an X Factor-styled nationwide singing contest in Burma.
The 24-year-old rising Chin singer has been praised for her talents and efforts in getting through a series of auditions to the final.
Early this year, the first series of the Melody World began with a total of 700 contestants in which only 200 made it through to the second round. The contestants selected were further refined through a series of performances after being split into 40 groups. The 5th series had only four singers left to compete in the final.
“The two finalists got equal votes and the five judges reconsidered the marks, leaving the Chin singer in the second place,” said a Chin local in Rangoon.
A female Burman singer received the first prize with a total amount of 7 lakhs.
“The audience liked her [Moe Moe] very much. But when the judges announced the result, the audience felt really sad. She still has a chance and we hope she will make a bigger one in the future,” said Pa Hre.
Van Dawt Cin of Thau village, Chin State is said to be appearing in the VCD and DVD productions of the Melody World. Moe Moe was also seen singing and performing in a Chin concert organised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last year.
The Melody World, aired in Burmese national television, is a nationwide singing competition contested in Burma by aspiring singers.
