22 May 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military launched a deadly airstrike and drone attack on Ywar Sin village in Khin-U township, Sagaing Region yesterday.
The assault, conducted by a jet fighter from Tada-U Air Base and two suicide drones, resulted in the deaths of four civilians: two men aged 45 and 20, and two women aged 62 and 27.
Several other individuals sustained serious injuries, and more than 20 residential homes were destroyed or damaged.
The Khin-U Township People’s Administration Team, which confirmed the incident, noted that this attack followed an earlier SSPC drone strike on 20 May targeting civilian homes and shops in the same village.
This aerial assault in Sagaing Region is part of an escalating and widespread campaign, as the SSPC has increased its reliance on indiscriminate air and drone attacks across conflict zones.
The attack aligns with a pattern of intensified air operations, particularly throughout May 2026, across Chin State and neighboring regions.
Recent reports highlight similar intensive strikes in Chin State where Matupi town has faced multiple airstrikes in recent weeks, including approximately 20 airstrike runs on 24 May. Mindat and Kanpetlet towns have also endured repeated, heavy SSPC airstrikes throughout May.
The continuous violence is driving widespread civilian displacement and migration. The Khin-U Township People’s Administration Team has urged local residents and displaced civilians to remain vigilant and strengthen airstrike preparedness, including the use of bomb shelters. – Reporting by Daniel
